I have always used excel to track and record student attainment. I have even used excel along with mail-merge in word doc to help me write detailed, personalised reports for each and every student. ChatGPT has enabled me to make the report writing process even more time efficient! Here's how:
The first thing you will need to do is to create your excel template. The first row will contain each of your headings my suggestions are "Name" for column A row 1, followed by the topics examined in row 1 column b,c,d etc. I like to include an overall result column for myself also. Once you have filled in your template and the first students results now is the time to go to ChatGPT.
Start simple - In plain english explain what it is you would like. Keep it simple to start out. Check that it works and add more with each iteration.
Prompt 1:
ChatGPT Response 1:
Excel Result 1:
Give Feedback - The last iteration didn't quite give me what I wanted. It did not extract the name from the "Name" cell in A2. Tell ChatGPT this and it will make an adjustment accordingly.
Prompt 2:
ChatGPT Response 2:
Excel Result 2:
Build Your Formula Slowly - With each iteration add something to the comment. Be sure to check it functions as desired after each adjustment. If it doesn't work go back and tell ChatGPT what didn't work and why. The more information you can provide it, the better.

Overall, Harry's effort in maths this year has been fair. He will need to work to improve this result if he is to receive the result he truly deserves in maths.
Still not getting exactly what you want? Play around with it! ChatGPT is like the tech expert colleague that you would look to for advice.
Drag and Drop - Once you have perfected your comment, go ahead and input the rest of the student data into the excel spreadsheet and drag and drop the formula into the rows below to apply the same formula to each row! You may find the formula doesn't quite transfer as you wish on the first attempt. Thats ok, go back to ChatGPT and tell it what the problem is like I did here:
Prompt 6:
ChatGPT Response 6:
As you can see this did not actually work for me. It pulled the values from the wrong rows...
Excel Result 6 :
So I went back to ChatGPT and asked it to fix it....
